Lukashenka wants to cooperate with EU without hurting Russia
Belarus president tells visiting Russian parliament speaker Sergei Naryshkin Belarus is doomed to maneuver 'between two monsters'.
Belarus will conduct an active integration policy, Lukashenka said. He thinks that the words of some politicians about “Belarus rushing about” are groundless, BELTA reports.
"Belarus has never been rushing about,” Lukashenka claimed. Belarus is located between two giants – Russia and the European Union, he noted. It is necessary to build relations in such conditions.
"Economy is important for us and we need to build relations with the EU without hurting our ally and fraternal state – Russia. But you cannot avoid it,” Belarus president said.
The Belarusian authorities should go in the direction of building relations with the EU, he added: “We understand: our sour relations with Europe are not for Russia’s good.”
