A wooden watermill situated in the village Naruseuka (near Halsany) is being taken to pieces to be used for firewood. The head of Halsany collective farm has made the decision, director of the fund Country of Castles Ales Varykish told Euroradio.
Ales Varykish: “They have started taking it to pieces, my worker said. I phoned the director of the collective farm and offered him firewood. He simply replied: ‘Stop making a fool of me.’ The Executive Committee told him to do so, he explained. This mill is special. It is a beautiful example of people’s architecture.”
Unfortunately, the watermill is not an official historical and cultural heritage site. It means it is impossible to forbid its destruction.
