Minsk trials: 5 people jailed, 2 – fined (photo)
A group of opposition United Civil Party members stood trials on Monday.
They were accused of staging an unauthorized action – a pre-election picket in support of Belarusian political prisoners near Minsk's Kamarouski Market on March 16.
Vladimir Romanosvki, Ales Arestovich, Yauhen Hrapau and Mihail Babila were jailed for 10 days. Hanna Kanapatskaya and Volha Mayorava each were awarded a fined of 4 million Belarusian roubles ($400), the UCP press service reports.
UCP leader Anatol Lyabedzka was jailed for 15 days because he was also charged with petty hooliganism. It means that the opposition politician will be in jail on the day of the local elections (March 23) and Freedom Day (March 25).
