New manifold not to save Minsk from floods
New manifolds are built according to the norms established in the 70s, the chief engineer of Minskinzhproject told Euroradio.
The new manifolds Centre and Nyamiha that are supposed to save Minsk from floods will not help. They are being built according to the norms established in the 1970s, chief engineer of Minskinzhproject Uladzimir Kotau told Euroradio. These norms allow manifolds to be overfilled three times a year.
Kotau: “The norms were introduced in the 70s. I started working 44 years ago and the norms already existed at that time. The new manifolds will not help. A branch science that only existed in the USSR was responsible for the norms. I doubt that there may be something new now. This is common practice all over the word – some water floods roads and some water goes to manifolds. They are built this way everywhere.”
Nyamiha, Internatsyanalnaya, Kamsamolskaya and Svyardlova Street suffer from floods most. The delivery of the manifolds has already been postponed several times. The new manifold is supposed to be ready by 2018-2020.
