Number of cyber crimes rapidly increasing in Belarus

The number of cyber crimes committed in Belarus in the first half of 2010 increased by 20% in comparison with the same period of the last year, reports BelaPAN. 2154 cases of violations in this field were registered in 2009.
More than 90% of all cyber crimes are connected with forgery of plastic cards. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the level of population computerization has greatly increased which has resulted in the growing number of cyber crimes. There were 6 PCs per 100 Minskers in 2000 and 62 – in 2009. At the same time, the level of personal security on the Internet is increasing much slower than the level of computerization.
