Participant of action in support of mother tongue fined in Homel
Judge of Homel Central District Court Alena Tsalkova has fined an inhabitant of the regional centre Andrei Papou for 525 thousand roubles to participation in an action organized in support of our mother tongue.
Let us remind you that the action took place in Homel on February 21. It was organized by activists of the youth democratic movement. Young people had red-green kerchiefs tied around their mouths and were carrying A4 sheets of paper with the inscription “Belarusian Language. Prohibited”. They were going to lay flowers on the monument to Kiryla Turauski.
The police detained participants of the action and drew protocols against them. Trials took place on February 23 and 24. Five people including two journalists were fined from 700 thousand roubles to 1 million 750 thousands. Kanstantsin Zhukouski was arrested for 7 days.
