Police colonel arrives at Kurapaty protest to force activist leave

Каб выгнаць Севярынца з дарогі, у Курапаты прыехаў палкоўнік міліцыі

Driving inspectors drew up a protocol against BCD co-leader Pavel Sevyarynets for going out to the roadway and preventing a car from approaching the restaurant “Poedem, Poedim”. The restaurant will be opened 50 metres away from the mass graves and memorial one of these days. Activists protesting against it gathered in Kurapaty on June 1. Trucks and cars headed for the territory of the restaurant at about 12 when most of the activists had left.

“About 20 cars passed by in a few hours,” Zmitser Dashkevich said. “One of the drivers told me that he was delivering bread. It means that the restaurant will be opened soon (they wouldn’t want to store bread for a week). I managed to stop the first cars but driving inspectors arrived after that. Pavel Sevyarynets went out to the roadway and tried preventing one more car from entering the territory of the restaurant. Police colonel Vital Kazlou approached him and asked to leave. A report was drawn up against Sevyarynets. We think that the State is covering up the restaurant in Kurapaty. It would be good to find out who ordered colonel Kazou to make activists leave.”

The colonel mentioned above was appointed head of Minsk Regional Executive Committee Department of the Interior in September 2017. He personally arrived at Kurapaty to watch the protest on June 1.

Activists are not planning to stop the protest. The only way out is to give the building to the people and open a museum dedicated to Stalin’s repressions there, Pavel Sevyarynets announced.
