Political prisoner Eduard Lobau is released
Eduard Lobau, recognized by Amnesty International as a political prisoner, walks out free after spending four years in prison in Belarus.
26-year-old Young Front activist Eduard Lobau has been released from Ivatsevichy colony #22 today. It happened at about 8 a.m., BelaPAN reports.
Lobau and the Young Front leader Zmitser Dashkevich were detained on December 18, 2010. The activists were accused of beating two Minskers. Dashkevich and Lobau pled not guilty and claimed that they had never seen the aggrieved persons before. The so-called victims spent all the trial in a separate room. Their addresses and phone numbers were not indicated in the case papers either. That is why observers doubted that they existed. Dashkevich and Lobau’s detention was considered to be a preventive measure before the presidential election in 2010.
Lobau was imprisoned for four years and Dashkevich – for 24 months. Amnesty International announced them prisoners of conscience.
Lobau served the his full term in the Ivatsevichy colony.
