Poroshenko promises citizenship to Belarusians fighting for Ukraine
This was announced by the Ukrainian president on 2 December in Verkhovna Rada.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will sign a decree granting Ukrainian citizenship to foreigners who are fighting for Ukraine against the Russian aggression. He stated this on Tuesday, speaking in the Verkhovna Rada.
"I want to say hello to my brothers in fighting: your appeal to the President of Ukraine concerning Ukrainian citizenship for Belarusians, Russians, who up in arms defended the honor and independence of the state ... As I promised, I will sign a decree granting them Ukrainian citizenship, they have passed the test," UNIAN quoted Poroshenko.
Starting from late spring-early summer of 2014, dozens of Belarusians have been fighting as part of Ukrainian volunteer battalions against militants in the Donbas.
