Governmental buildings including the White House, Capitol, Department of State and Ministry of Justice were left without electricity. An explosion at an electric power station caused the problem.
The Capitol switched to reserve power supply, BBC reports. The White House was left without electricity during the lunch break. The power was on a few seconds later. Probably, reserve resources were used for it. A few metro stations are functioning the same way.
There is no reason to suspect a terrorist attack, the American authorities announced.
