Pyotr Martsau: “Lord Bell’s plan is a bit untimely for Belarus”
ERB has decided to find out why the official Minsk is not reacting to the plan of changing the outward image of Belarus sent by Lord Bell.
Lord Bell sent his plan of changing the outward image of Belarus to the leader of the state more than two weeks ago. As ERB informed, the English document was lost somewhere in the corridors of power of Belarusian administrative offices.
Lord Bell gave an interview to ERB on Wednesday. He informed that he was planning a meeting with the Belarusian President because he had not received any reply from Belarus:
“We have not signed a contract yet because we have not discussed the plan with your government. I have not received any reply from your President yet so I am going to meet Lukashenka during the next few weeks. We will discuss my plan and we will either sign the contract or not”.
ERB has found out that the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs knew nothing about another meeting of the English image-maker and the Belarusian President:
“I do not know anything about it…”
Alyaksandr Fyaduta, the former head of the Department of civil and political information of the President’s Administration, thinks that the situation concerning Lord Bell’s plan is remarkable for the international practice:
“I do not really know if there are any precedents of the kind in the international practice – when a leader of an organization or a country orders some plan and does not reply afterwards. How can it be possible?”
According to a famous Belarusian political scientist Pyotr Martsau, the Belarusian authorities do not reply to Lord Bell because they have not decided whether to use the plan or not:
“I assume that the administration of our country commissioned Lord Bell with working out a programme of making a positive image of our country and Lord Bell presented the plan to Belarus. Probably the administration of our country has not decided whether to use the plan or not. It is because the things happening to our country in the international arena are ambiguous. First of all, they can be perceived ambiguously”.
According to Pyotr Martsau, it is impossible to improve the outward image of Belarus without establishing normal relations with western countries:
“It is impossible to stick to a positive programme quarrelling with the USA and the European Union at the same time. That is why I think that Lord Bell’s plan is a bit untimely for Belarus”.
Be that as it may, the Belarusian President has not given any reply to Lord Bell’s plan of improvement of the outward image of Belarus.
