Court orders to destroy 'extremist' Belarus Press Photo 2011 albums
The district court in Ashmyany rules that 41 confiscated albums be destroyed, while three journalists will pay Br200 thousand each in customs duties
The trial was initiated by Hrodna Province KGB in winter. Photographers Yuliya Darashkevich, Vadzim Zamirouski and Alyaksandr Vasyukevich tried to bring 41 copies of the albums from Lithuania where they had been printed. Despite the previous successful attempts (the edition had all the necessary documents), customs officers confiscated all the copies for an investigation. The case was sent to KGB later.
Besides Darashkevich, Zamirouski and Vasyukovich, KGB representative Natallya Skurat and head of the ideology department of Hrodna Executive Committee Pavel Skrabko attended the trial in Ashmyany on April 17. Judge Davydau spent half a day considering his decision.
