EU urges to release political prisoners and start dialogue with opposition
A declaration on the situation in Belarus has been adopted at the Eastern Partnership Summit.
“The civil society participants of the Eastern Partnership Conference express their continuing concern about the worsening problem of ongoing human rights, democracy and the supremacy of law violations, regret the restriction of the liberty of mass media and are urging to release political prisoners, stop repressions and start a dialogue with the opposition. The European Union is also concerned about the information that political prisoners are refused medical assistance, contacts with their family members and lawyers and are suffering from psychological and physical pressure. The European Union has also suggested developing relations with Belarus and has confirmed its critical dialogue policy repeating that the development depends on Belarusian authorities’ clear progress in respect for human rights, supremacy of law and democracy “, - is said in the declaration on the situation in Belarus adopted at the Eastern Partnership Summit on September 30, 2011.
