Forecast 2012: Social protests, champion's title in football and Olympics
Euroradio has asked experts about their expectations from 2012.
The economy is the most important thing. What will the dollar exchange rate be like? Economist Leanid Zlotnikau guarantees that everything will be more or less stable until spring.
“Nothing will change until spring because there will be money. However, it is difficult to predict what will happen next. It will depend on foreign currency influx - credits, assistance, Russian supplies”.
The economist also predicts that the dollar exchange rate may reach 12 thousand roubles by the end of the year.
Politics follows the economy. No changes can be expected here. The only thing is the parliamentary election in September. However, political scientist Uladzimir Matskevcih advises not to expect anything new from it. He thinks that there will be no election at all.
“There will be no election! There is no reason to expect the government to change within the next few months. Let us forget about changes”.
In addition to it, Matskevich claims that we should not expect anything dramatic and new from changes in the government as the changes can only be cosmetic.
“There will be changes in the administration. They are needed both in the security agencies and in the social bloc. However, nobody will be able to get off the ground”.
Is the situation in the foreign policy better? Political scientist Dzyanis Maltsou destroys the myth. The expert says that all the possible agreements with Russia have already been signed. That is why 2012 is going to be depressing and silent.
“I do not think that it can be worse. Taking the agreements with Russia into account, the Belarusian government will not need as much money as it did in summer. The Belarusian administration has no motivation to improve its relations with the Europe Union at the moment. In its turn, the EU expects some steps from the official Minsk and will probably abstain from any activity”.
Melyantsou adds that we should not expect any economic sanctions.
Having been disappointed with politics and economy, let us think about sport. Maybe we can look forward to something here. Editor-in-chief of the popular sports newspaper “Pressball” Uladzimir Belazhkou says that it would be too optimistic to expect 25 medals from London Olympics.
“In my opinion, the goal set by the state leader – 25 medals – will not be reached. We will only have 4 world champions”.
Berazhkou thinks that Herasimenya, Novikava, Astapchuk and the Mihnevichs have the best chance to win medals. He says that he will be watching our football team interestedly. According to the expert, our guys may even ... win.
Let us talk to weather forecasters after sport. The warm December makes us worry about the harvest. The Belarusian Hydrometeorology Centre explains that we will get our harvest.
“We do not see anything negative about it at the moment. The worst thing is a cold snap. It is gradually gets colder than there will be no danger”.
Weather forecasters say that there will be no cold snap. That is why it should be okay.
A forecast would not be a forecast without astrology. Famous Ukrainian forecaster Igor Kolomiyets makes us come down to earth.
“I cannot say what it will be like. However, you will witness great social protests and an economic default. The tendency will be observed all the year”.
However, Kolomiyets does not think that there will be the end of the world. You can calm down and hope that 2012 will be better than some experts think.
