Human rights defender Ales Byalyatski detained one month ago

Ales Byalyatski, vice President of the International Federation for Human Rights and head of the human rights centre “Vyasna” was detained near Victory Square in Minsk on August 4 at about 5 p.m. His flat, summer house and the office of “Vyasna” were searched on the same evening and the detained was interrogated at the Financial Investigation Department of the State Control Committee. Byalyatski was jailed after the interrogation. The human rights defender was accused of major tax evasion on August 12.
