July 28 – “Books by Post” service stands trial

The trial of the founder of the service “Books by Post”, Ales Yaudaha, started in Minsk October District Court at 10 a.m. However, it has been postponed until 2 p.m. because the witnesses did not appear in court.

The distributor of Belarusian books and audio discs is accused of illegal business (p.1 of art.233 of the Criminal Code). The article may result in a fine or lead to up to three years of imprisonment.

Let us remind you that the Department for Financial Investigation started a case against Yaudaha in May 2010. Investigators interrogated clients of “Books by Post” and asked them how much money they had sent to the book distributor.

Yaudaha says that the Ministry of Taxation organized a control purchase in his shop in February 2010 – they ordered a few dozen books “Members of the Young Front”. The service “Books by Post” has been having problems since then.
