Murderers and… Varlamau are jailed for long before trial
The imprisoned designer is asking his colleagues to write letters about the Fashion Mill.
The designer’s term of imprisonment before his trial may be prolonged by up to 18 months. Sasha Varlamou has been waiting for his trial in prison for almost a year.
“It is often used for heinous crimes… Murders or cases with many participants that require examination. It may be economic cases requiring accounting control. It is because there is a lot of work to be done”, - explained the General Prosecutor’s Office and recalled… Varlamau!
“Varlamau has been jailed for a long time. He is an elderly man. Nevertheless, there are 500 wronged persons and witnesses and I can only imagine how much work needs to be done. It is practically impossible to do it all faster”, - explained the General Prosecutor’s Office.
The designer spent 4 out of 12 months in prison hospital. He has problems with his spine and he is an invalid of the 3rd disability group. Euroradio has found out that Varlamau has been planning to undergo an operation before he was arrested.
“He needs an operation. And he needs rehabilitation. He may undergo an operation and stay in prison”, - says designer Lyudmila Labkova. She dedicated her collection to Varlamau at the Belarusian Fashion Mill.
Now Lyudmila is in correspondence with the former head of the Fashion Mill. She “feels like crying” when she thinks about this year’s Fashion Mill.
Lyudmila Labkova: “It is a local children’s contest. It was good and I liked the gala concert. But as a designer I can say that it has no prospects, there were no invitations to work abroad and no trainees. I felt like crying when I watched it on TV. The Minister said that it was so wonderful. And the organizer is in prison. And nobody even recalled him”.
Even being jailed, Varlamau is interested in his project. He has asked friends to write about it in letters.
“Sasha writes that he is happy that the Fashion Mill exists. He has asked to describe the event. I have written about everything I heard”, - recalls Lyudmila Labkova.
The current organizers of the Fashion Mill do not divide the contest into “pre-Varlamau and post-Varlamau” periods. And they do not want to compare the approaches to its organization.
“They had a concept of their own. And we have ours. We will keep working to turn it into an education project. Students should be able to look at the best examples of work in our country and abroad. The administration of any project may change. But all the organizers of this project have changed. However, we have taken into account all the previous experience”, - says deputy head of the steering committee of the Fashion Mill Nadzeya Vasilchanka.
She has promised that models and designers will be able to go abroad. The current plan includes Finland, Lithuania and Latvia. She has recalled that the budget of the festival was reduced by two thirds in comparison with the previous years.
By the way, Sasha Varlamau is also accused of accepting bribes from parents who wanted their minor children to be sent abroad.
Let us remind you that the designer was arrested on May 20, 2011. There are more than 500 wronged persons and witnesses in his case. Varlamau is also accused of illegal usage of the money allocated for the Fashion Mill.
