Web-site - archive of Belarusian democratic movement starts working
Creators of "Vytoki" claim that better archives exist only in KGB.
The idea of "Vytoki" web-site appeared long ago, and not in
just one civil organization, its creators claim. Facts of the history which
cannot be found in official textbooks are published there.
Soon everyone will be able to find a document of a certain organization or
pictures of "Dziady-1988" or "Chernobyl Way-1996" easily. A
series of civil organizations and private collections united their efforts
create a big Internet-archive.
Historian Vaclau Areshka from a public
association "Dyjariusz": "We
are collecting everything related to the history of civil resistance,
liberation movement, and struggle for democracy, freedom and independence for
XX-XXI centuries".
Head of the NGOs Assembly Siarhej Matskevich jokes that in case the BRYU will be
forbidden or someone interferes with its activity, its documents may also
appear at this web-site.
According to the estimation of "Dyjariusz"
Chairperson Larysa Androsik,
the web-site containing organizations' history, biographies of activists, has
been filled by 1% so far. New photos and copies of documents will be added
constantly. Everyone will have an opportunity to share a valuable item from
their private collections.
Historian Vaclau Areshka explains the reason for creating the web-archive: "We come across the
situation when a great number of documents get destroyed. No official
collection, archive or library collects such materials systematically. I think,
a better collection exists only in the KGB".
This web-site may become a useful aid to students-historians in future; hope
the organizers of "Vytoki".
