Ruslana receives International Women of Courage Award

Michelle Obama awarded Ukrainian singer Ruslana for her courage. The International Women of Courage is annually awarded by the U.S. Department of State to 10 women, Agence France-Presse reports.

The singer was awarded for her participation in the protest actions in Ukraine. She was brave enough to join the protest action regardless of the threat to her life and freedom.

16-year-old acid attack victim from India Laxmi , lawyer from Fiji Roshika Deo, gynaecologist from Afghanistan Nasrin Oryakhil, Georgian Bishop Rusudan Gotsiridze and other women were among the awardees.

Ruslana won Eurovision-2004 and supported the Orange Revolution. She also became an MP from the pro-President faction Our Ukraine. She started taking part in Maidan from the very start and made speeches and sang there. The singer went on a hunger strike to express her protest and helped delivering the wounded to hospital.
