Spanish girl sings Pahonya in Belarusian (video)
Angela Espinosa has never been to Belarus and studied Belarusian on her own.
She decided to record Maksim Bahdanovič’s Pahonya under the influence of her Internet friend, Belarusian entrepreneur Ales Mazanik. Ales became known after he sued a state transport company for having a Russian flag on a public bus.
Angela Espinosa learnt Belarusian in only 9 months although she had never been to our country. She got interested in Belarus after the election in 2010. Then she understood that the Belarusian language and culture were more interesting than our politics. The girl lives in Granada and studies Slavonic philology there. Besides Belarusian, she can speak Polish, Ukrainian and Russian.
Angela has a special blog – Foreigner Writing in Belarusian. Her plan for 2014 is: “I want to write A LOT. I want to write in Belarusian too. It is necessary to study literature, linguistics, pass the exams and get a job at the airport for the summer. And to engage in the Belarusian issue too.”
Angela Espinosa was noticed in the Belarusian Internet for singing Yanka Kupala’s Prayer earlier.
