Two small-circulation regional newspapers return to national distribution network
The non-state newspaper Babruiski Courier has been back at newsstands since Wednesday. Another newspaper -- Volnaye Hlybokaye -- can also return to the national disrubution network. All the other regional newspapers were not allowed to be sold in kiosks. It means that the government has returned just two newspapers with a small circulation, notes Nasha Niva newspaper. The Coodination Council on the Media deciced at its session in early June that it would recommend the Belposta and Soyuzdruk state-owned media distribution companies to resume the dissemination of non-state newspapers through the national network.
All regional newspapers received a letter signed by Sovietskaya Belorussia chief editor Pavel Yakubovich, proposing to approach the local branches of Belposta and Souyuzdruk. However, Babruiski Courier was the only newspaper to receive a go-ahead from the local authorities. The newspaper in Hlybokaye has filed the document yet, because it is changing its ownership status, but the Vitsebsk authorities do not object to its returning to kiosks.
The newspapers like Borisovskie Novosti, Gazeta Slonimskaya and Intex-Press that enjoy a bigger curculation, were not allowed to return to the state-owned newsstands.
