Van Rompuy: Putin was warned there is no alternative to Minsk agreement
The EU is not to immediately impose new sanctions on Russia
European leaders have warned Vladimir Putin that the fulfilment of Minsk agreement is the only way out of the crisis in Ukraine, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy said.
He announced it in a video statements distributed by the pres service of the European Council.
“Speaking about Ukraine, we claimed again that we supported Minsk agreement that was being ignored by Russia despite the fact that it had approved the provisions of the treaty,” the politician said.
Regardless of the violations committed by Russia, the European Council is not considering new sanctions now, Rompuy assured. However, Europe would like to keep exercising pressure on Russia, he noted.
Herman Van Rompuy’s term in the position of the President of the European Council will be over on November 30. Polish ex-PM Donald Tusk will fill the position on December 1, Ukrainian Pravda reports.
