Why was Belarus cut off from internet?
Beltelecom has admitted its mistake and promised to punish those responsible. Beltelecom has appologized for cutting off internet services in Belarus. The web site of the state monopoly notes that the problems emerged due to the violation of the maintenance procedures.
“The personalities responsible for the maintenance procedures have been penalized. We appologize for any inconviniences", Beltelecom said.
On October 1 in the morning, most of Belarusians were cutt off from the internet for two hours. Foreign site were not accessible through private ISPs, while the state monopoly Beltelecom which sells internet service under the byfly brand had almost no problems.
Belpak company told the European Radio for Belarus that the failures were caused by the problems with the router.
Why did the internet continue working for byfly subscribers? It turned out that the state monopoly works in another subnetwork, while the network of private service providers is operated by another router which was supposed to be expanded.
