14:10 14,000 Belarusians get into slavery
Up to 14,000 Belarusians get into slavery every year, the International Organization for Migration said in a report based on the research of labor migration and trafficking in people in five countries: Belarus, Bulgary, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine.
According to the international pundits, 225,000 people from those five countries, including 117,000 Ukrainians, 57,000 Moldovans, 28,000 Romanians and 9,500 Bulgarians, become victims of the European people traffickers.
The contemporary slaves are either used for hard agricultural labor or forced to work as prostitutes or beggars.
The organization's experts note that the actual figures might be even higher, because slavery victims and their relatives do not often wish to reveal their stories.
