15:38 Fewer Belarusians want to unite with Russia
The number of people in Belarus who support the unification with Russia has declined, according to a poll conducted by independent pollsters in late January 2007. If a referendum on unifying Belarus and Russia was held today, slightly over 35 percent of the polled Belarusians would vote in favor against 46.5 percent in November 2006.
Nearly 40 percent are today ready to vote against the unification, against 33.5 percent in November last year.
If they were to choose between the unification with Russia and joining the European Union, 48.5 percent would vote today for the unification with Russia, down from 56 percent early last year, reports AFN agency.
