16 families evicted for defaulted utility bills in Vitsebsk

The public utility officials in the Vitsebsk region issued 151 eviction orders to utility bill defaulters in 2008. 25 families were forcefully transferred to smaller apartments, while 16 who failed to cover their debts were simply locked out.
But officials agree to waive the fines if tenants cover their debts. Last year, over half a billion of rubels in fines were thus written off last year.

Currently, around 90 percent of households in the Vitsebsk region have debts in paying their utility bills.
