2 Belarus athletes stripped of 2008 Olympic medals
The sanctions by the International Olympic Committee have stripped Belarusian weight-lifters Andrei Rybakou and Anastasia Novikava of the medals they won at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijin, reports Pressball.
In 2008, Rybakou won silver (85kg) and Novikava won bronze in the 53kg event.
The IOC said Rybakou and Novikova tested positive for stanozolol. Rybakou was also positive for the steroid turinabol.
The Belarusian athletes are to return the medals back to IOC.
A total of six medal winners stripped of medail - all from the former Soviet countries of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan - were retroactively disqualified from the 2008 Beijing Olympics on Wednesday after failing retests of their doping samples.
