About 500 people join meeting of protest against construction of plant in Puhavichy District
A meeting in protest against the construction of a pesticides plant took place in the village of Druzhny in Puhavichy District. It was not allowed by the authorities. About 500 people took part in the action. Local inhabitants had invited representatives of the authorities but they did not come. However, policemen arrived there and they did not create obstacles to the demonstrators.
Participants of the action were holding transparencies “No pesticides!”, “Lets preserve the beauty of nature for our descendants” and others. They are sure that the construction of the plant will result in an increase of allergic, oncological and other diseases in people living near the future construction site.
A decision to conduct a local referendum about the construction of the enterprise was taken during the meeting.
At the end of the action people headed for the building site and installed a cross there.
