Alyaksandr Lukashenka was one of the first people who congratulated Darya Domracheva on the brilliant victory. Fans (including Belarusian businessmen Yury Chyzh and Alyaksandr Shakutsin), members of Belarus national team and Domracheva gathered in Lukashenka’s residence in Sochi. Lukashenka's youngest son Mikalai presented a bunch of flowers to Domracheva before she was tossed up in celebration.

"The celebration continued till late – they were drinking tea,” president.gov.by reports. “They wished her future victories as the Olympic Games were in full swing and Darya had many important competitions ahead.”

Alyaksandr Lukashenka shared his personal impression about Darya Domracheva’s success ad said that he was keeping a close eye on the sports competitions in Sochi. Such victories can help create a positive image of the country better than any diplomacy, the state leader stressed.

Darya Domracheva spoke about the whole team’s efforts. The Olympic champion decided not carry the Belarusian flag at the opening ceremony. “I decided to refuse on order to keep myself in good shape and not to fall ill. I was thinking: I’d rather finish with the Belarusian flag than carry it at the opening ceremony,” the sportswoman noted.

"Then you will carry it at the closing ceremony. This is your Olympic Games,” the state leader said. Alyaksandr Lukashenka expressed confidence in the fact that the other members of Belarus biathlon team were able to win Olympic medals too.
