Team Belarus will play Sweden in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
The first period ended in a draw but Russian Shipachyov and Plotnikov scored two goals in the second period. Uladzimir Dzyanisau managed to score a goal in the third period but Belarusians could not do anything else. Russian Malkin failed to score one more goal at the end of the game.
The match was played in Minsk Arena and a new record of attendance was registered there – 14679 people.
Belarusians will play a quarterfinal match with Sweden on May 22. Russia will play with France – Czechs defeated the French team in another match in the overtime – 5:4.
Group A: Canada and Sweden – 18 points, the Czech Republic – 12, France – 11, Slovakia – 10, Norway – 7, Denmark – 5 and Italy – 3.
Group B: Russia – 21, USA – 14, Belarus – 12, Finland – 11, Switzerland – 10, Latvia – 9, Germany – 5, Kazakhstan – 2.
The quarterfinal matches will be Canada – Finland, Russia – France, Belarus – Sweden and the Czech Republic – USA. If Belarusians fail to defeat Sweden, they will have to play with Russia again (unless France surprises everyone with a victory).
