The Ministry of Justice has registered the political party "Belaya Rus". Minister Syarhey Khamenka handed over the registration certificate to the party's leader Aleg Ramanau.
"Belaya Rus" is the first party registered in Belarus since the beginning of the century. So far, the Ministry of Justice has refused to officially register other political parties (such as the Belarusian Christian Democracy) under various pretexts.
Currently, the country is in the process of re-registering parties. The authorities claim that there will be only three or four parties left in Belarus. There is no doubt that there will be no opposition parties among them.
