Belarus orphan girl sexually harassed in Italy returns home

The 11-year-old Belarus orphan girl returns home after becoming in the center of a sexual harassment scandal during the summer break in Italy. Her host, a 40-year-old Italian man, is suspected of violence and abusing the orphan. The Italian police said that the girl whose name is being kept anonymous was subjected to violence and harassment by her Italian hosts. The Belarusian girl was removed from this family and spent the remaining 10 days of holidays with a group of children from the same orphanage.

"At 1730 Belarus time the girl rutrned to Belarus together with the other children from her group. She is back home and feels good", Belarus Ambassador to Italy Aliaksey Skrypko told the European Radio for Belarus on the phone.

The girl arrived in Italy in early August and was trusted to an Italian couple living in Savonna. They would stay together at a sea resort hotel.

But the neighbors started noticing that the head of the family would allow himself to display what they described as "ambigouos attention signs". The vigil Italians reported to police which reacted immediately.

The 40-year-old man was taken into a police custody for interrogation on suspicion of sexual harassment. Police are still continuing investigation.

Italian officials refrain from comments until the end of investigation. The Belarusian ambassador said the suspect was not detained.
