Belarusian Iryna Dainakova has taken the 2nd place at a prestigious photo contest Sony World Photography Awards-2015 in the series Children in Sport. Belarusian photographers have never been in the top-3 at this contest before. They reached the short lists only. However, Iryna Dainakova has taken the second place in the nomination Sport this year. An Italian photographer won with his photos of Bolivian women’s fighting.
Iryna had 87000competitors in the nomination Sport. The Belarusian photographed girls’ gymnastics training sessions. Iryna focused on emotions, she said.
“I wanted to catch something in the girls’ glances, in everyday life. I came to them three times so that they could get used to me. People often pay unnecessary attention to photographers. I made the pictures only when we have got used to one another and the girls stopped noticing me,” Iryna Dainakova commented on the series Children in Sport.
Sony World Photography Awards is one of the most prestigious free contests, Iryna said. Photographers from 171 countries have taken part in it this year.
Iryna Dainakova cooperates with the Belarusian glossy magazine La Dolce Vita and is also self-employed. However, her work is not connected with photography only.
“My other passion is tourism. I make travel itineraries. I am leaving for Georgia soon. We have made our itineraries for this country and are going to find some other interesting things to add them to our programme,” Iryna describes her plans for the near future.
The winners’ series are displayed in the London gallery Somerset House now.
