Belarusians extract first shale oil
First time commercial oil production from shale rock in Belarus
New well drilling began in February at Petrykouskaya-Yeletskaya deposits in Rechitskoye field. As a result of the well development, Rechytskaye field got commercial inflow of unconventional oil from dense rocks characterized by very low permeability, reports Radio Liberty.
Until recently, non-conventional oil deposits were not available for Belarusian oil producers. But now thanks to new technologies, new wells produce 20 tons of oil per day, reports Belorusneft. It is assumed that the oil reserves there may have up to 700 thousand tons. This corresponds to 3% of the oil volume that Belarus annually imports from Russia.
