Ukraine's biggest Lenin statue toppled down in Kharkiv (video)
The 20.2 m-high monument was unveiled in 1963, with the sculpture of Lenin itself 8.5 m high.
Many thousand people took part in an action in support of Ukraine’s integrity on September 28. A group of activists headed for the monument to Lenin in Freedom Square. People demolished it in four hours, censor.net.ua reports.
The monument’s legs were sawn up at first, then the iron Lenin was removed from the pedestal. People engraved the words Glory to Ukraine on the pedestal.
The police did not interfere. A criminal case was started at first. However, Minister of Internal Affairs Arseni Avakov ordered to close the case. Governor of Kharkiv Obalst Igor Baluta has ordered to demolish the monument, he said.
