Claude Monet's Water Lilies painting sold for $54 million
The painting was in a private collection and has been displayed for the first time in 70 years.
Claude Monet Water Lilies previously held in a private collection has been sold at Sotheby's, New York, for $54 million. It was painted 110 years ago and has been displayed for the first time since 1955. An American collector has become its new owner.
Six oil paintings by French impressionist Claude Monet were put up to auction. Five of them were bought for over $115 million, RIA Novosti reports.
Claude Monet (1840 — 1926) is a French painter and one of the founders of Impressionism.
