Comedy GaraSH box-office earnings exceed budget three-fold
Andrei Kureichyk’s tragicomedy GaraSH about Minsk microdistrict Shabany has made thrice its budget in the first distribution week-end, Kureichyk’s press service reports.
Br51 million was spent on the film shot in June 2015. The film has already made over Br161 million in Belarusian cinemas (including the festival Listapad).
The film was shown only 40 times all over Belarus, Kureichyk noted. The filmmakers did not spend anything on advertising. Nevertheless, 70%-100% of the tickets usually get sold, the author said.
The official budget of the national cinema project Us, Brothers totalled $5 million. The film made $41 thousand from running in all Belarusian cinemas.
Film distributors in the provinces refused to show the tragicomedy starring Alyaksandr Kulinkovich and Atrsyom Kuran, co-producer of GaraSH Dzmitry Fryha said. The film will not be shown in Mahilyou Province. Homel, Barysau, Maladzechna and Salihorsk cinemas have also refused to show it.
