EU hopes Belarus will revise Internet regulation law
Lutz Guellner, press secretary of the High Representative of the European Union for foreign affairs and security Catherine Ashton, has commented on Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s recent decree on Internet regulation in a phone talk with ERB.
Lutz Guellner: “The new presidential decree about the Internet will restrict the freedom of speech and information in Belarus even more if it comes into power. We consider this issue to be a big step in the wrong direction. We hope the Belarusian authorities will reconsider it. We are worried about the new restrictions of the freedom of speech and freedom in general especially at the moment when the European Union would like to establish a gradual cooperation in Belarus”.
