EU hopes for progress in Belarus-EU visa issue

The European Union is hoping to see progress in Belarus-EU visa regime simplification, the European Commission told BelaPAN.

The third round of negotiations dedicated to the visa regime simplification and readmission will be held in Minsk on March 12. The EU is hoping that the negotiations will allow t solve all the remaining issues. At the same time, the European Commission is not commenting on the negotiations.

Belarus and the EU have not reached any agreement on visa-free diplomatic trips and a visa-free regime for members of official delegations, Belarusian deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna told journalists at the beginning of March. The European Union is discussing a new position in the negotiations with Belarus, Kupchyna noted.

Visa simplification and readmission agreements may be ratified at the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga in May, she said.
