Freedom Day in Minsk - in pictures
The traditional street rally to mark Freedom Day took place on March 25 in Minsk. The city administration authorized the participants to gather near the Academy of Sciencies and march to the remote People's Friendship park for a rally.
However, part of the partcipants gathered near the Yanka Kupala monument and laid flowers to the famous poet. The demonstrators then proceeded towards the Yakub Kolas monument where they made brief speeches and laid flowers. The two rallies united near the Academy of Sciences. Politicians and public figures made speeches, including a statement by Ivonka Survila, the president of Belarusian Popular Republic in exile.
A bigger part of the participants then walked to the Riga shopping center and then the action ended.
Around 800 people took part in the Freedom Day celebrations in Minsk.
