G7 ready to impose new sanctions on Russia
Barack Obama has urged Vladimir Putin to decide what is more important – ‘the glory of the Soviet empire’ or the economy.
The enhancement of the Russia sanctions was discussed at the summit of the Great Seven. However, it was a technical discussion, U.S. President Barack Obama said after the meeting. It means that the Western countries are ready to impose additional sanctions if Minsk peace process comes to a standstill, BBC reports.
The participants of the G7 summit agreed to keep exercising pressure on Russia so that Minsk agreements would be fulfilled, Obama added. Russian troops are still present in the east of Ukraine thus violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, the American President added.
Moscow’s actions in Ukraine cost a lot to Russia, Obama said. He advised that Vladimir Putin decided if he really wanted ‘to keep destroying his country’s economy in an attempt to restore the glory of the Soviet empire’.
