Government to spend $500K for new bus stops in Minsk

Some shelters, assembled from the imported components, have already been covered by rust.

The works at bus stops in the Belarusian capital that were planned to be equipped with shelters in 2008, have already been finished. If some shelters are missing, it means they were not budgeted for the last year, says Maria Yeusikava, the official in charge of technical supervision at the city’s road repair company.

She says that 215 more bus stops will have been equipped with shelter stands by March 31, 2009. The project will cost the country nearly $500 thousand. Yet, some stops will remain without shelters.

Maria Yeusikava: “One shelter costs an average of Br 6 million. By March 31, 2009, it is planned to install 215 new shelters”.

Shelters were introduced at bus stops in Minsk instead of the private kiosks demolished according to the Minsk City Hall resolution. But, there are still many stops without shelters to protect people, waiting for the public transport, from winds, snow or rain.
