Hackers attack Alfa Bank’s ATMs
Alfa Bank has uncovered the details of last week’s large-scale attack. The bank turned off all its ATMs and asked clients to use partners’ cash dispensers instead.
The attack was directed at stealing money from ATMs, not from clients’ accounts, a bank representative told tut.by. The hacker attack was ‘fake encashment’, director of electronic business department of Alfa Bank Alyaksei Koryk said. Security systems registered the attack and the bank turned off all its ATMs to stop it, he explained.
The bank did not reveal any other details because the information was secret. The police are investigating the incident now. Every ATM is getting checked before launch. 21 ATMs are functioning. Owners of Alfa Bank credit cards will be able to use all the other banks’ ATMs for free until the end of August.
The scheme of the attack is known in other countries. Something similar happened in the biggest bank of Taiwan and in a Kiev bank.
