The idea of a round-table discussion between the authorities and the opposition mentioned by Alyaksandr Lukashenka on August 29 keeps getting interpreted in unexpected ways. The head of the ONT TV Channel, Ryhor Kisel, has expressed a thought that the state leader meant that the opposition should elaborate their suggestions “without the government”.
The editor-in-chief of the magazine “Belarusian Thought”, Vadzim Hihin, has expressed his opinion about the possible participants of the negotiations for Euroradio on air.

Vadzim Hihin: “The opposition should take part in the round-table
discussion. However, like the President said, these people should be
worried about Belarus’ future. In my opinion, we have to stick to the
legal base when it comes to a certain dialogue between the government
and the opposition. In this case, the opposition consists of only those
parties and associations that are registered now. The message should be
addressed to them and not to some virtual groups or initiatives which
are supported by the people who receive grants to help such groups
exist”.
Hihin notes that there are 15 registered parties and about 2 thousand
civil associations in Belarus. Naturally, the opposition makes up only a
small proportion of them.
