Huge queue of pensioners opposite President’s Administration (photo)
Pensioners are selling their books to get extra money in Minsk.
Dozens of pensioners come to the bookshop Belkniha every third Tuesday of every month. It is situated opposite the President’s Administration. They even sign up for the queue for the next month to sell their old books.
“If it’s your first time, make a list of all your books. They (goods managers - Euroradio’s note) will chose what they need,” a man from the queue said. It was not his first time and he had brought books.
Not all books are accepted – the shop only needs popular classical literature, the elderly people said. But they will pay peanuts for it – about 50 thousand roubles for a book. Rare antique books may cost more. The shop will take 30% of 50 thousands and pensioners will get the rest.
