Human sciences to become more ideology-driven in Belarus

The Belarus leader believes that researchers should resist any attempts to distort and politicize the history of Belarus and not allow biased evaluation of its particular periods, including the Great Patriotic War, Belta news agency quotes the president' press office as saying in a statement after the March 21 meeting with the leading scientists in Minsk.

"Scientists also need to fully promote the historical heritage as a basis for patriotic education," Belta quotes Lukashenka as saying.

The President acknowledged that little attention is paid to liberal education and research in the field of social sciences. According to him, the situation needs to be changed. "We must openly admit that humanities are primarily ideological sciences. After all, ideology is a road map for social development. We have been forming the state ideology mostly empirically. But the time has come to summarize the experience of the existence of the sovereign Belarus by selecting, systematizing and using in ideological work everything that will help to consolidate society and strengthen the unity of the nation," said the President.

"Research in the field of economics, law, political sciences and sociology should have an expert and analytical orientation. Draft legislation, government programs and fundamental decisions in various sectors, which affect the interests of many citizens, should be clearly justified and based on scientific approaches," said the head of state.
