Janukievic fined Br930,000 for opposition rally
The deputy chairman of the Party of the Belarusian Popular Front and one of the organiziers of the April 26 Chernobyl March, Aliaksej Janukovic was today fined by a Minsk court to 30 base rates or Br930,000. The politician was detained by police today in the morning and fetched to a district police station. He was charged with having violated public order during an opposition demonstration.
The traffic police witnesses said the demonstrators hampered traffic on Surganov Street during the Chernobyl March.
Valiancina Palevikova of the United Civil Part, also an organizer of the Chernobyl March, was today fined to 25 base rates. Another opposition activist Yury Ziankovic is facing similar charges but could not show up in court due to illness, according to Belapan.
