Journalists detained in Belarus regions
Several independent journalists cooperating with the Poland-based Belarusian TV channel Belsat on Saturday were detained in Belarus. According to Radio Svaboda, correspondent Volha Chaychyts and cameraman Siarhei Kavalyou were detained in the center of Barysau when they were doing a live standup. The journalists were taken to the local police station in an 'official van' without number plates.
Chaychyts and Kavalyou arrived in Barysau to cover a possible protest that was announced by Belarusian anarchists in several Belarisian cities, including Barysau.
Traffic police stopped a car with independent journalists Siarhei Rusetski and Uladzimir Luniou on the road from Viviebsk to Navapolack. Intially, they were accused of violating the traffic rules and let go. Later, they were detained in Polack district and taken to the Polack Ditrict Police Department.
In Kobryn, Brest region, the police detained journlaist Aliaksandr Lyauchuk who cooperates with Belsat. His wife and journalist Milana Kharytonava was also detained.
The traffic police also stopped independent journalist Kanstantsin Zhukouski when he was driving to cover a possible protest in Mozyr.
Journalist Larysa Shcharakova from Homiel was detained on the road from Recyca to Mozyr on the grounds that she resembled a theft suspect.
