KGB detain Hrodna officials over graft
The chief of land management services and the head of economic department at the Hrodna administration are charged with receiving a bribe.
According to the press service of the Belarusian KGB, the officials promised the founder of one of the commercial enterprises from the Hrodna region to resolve the issue with the extension of the right to use the land. For doing this they wanted to get 6,000 dollars. Representative of the company passed 2,000 of this amount to the officials in August. While passing another 4 thousand dollars, they were detained by state security officers .
During a search conducted in one of the suspects' office, envelope with $1,000 was found. The official could not explain where it came from.
A criminal case under the article "bribe-taking" was launched concerning the detainees; they were left in custody. Further investigations are being conducted, other possible episodes of bribery are investigated.
