Koktysh: Russian MFA’s statement does not mean intervention in Donetsk
Russia wants to protect its citizens all over Ukraine.
The Russian Foreign Ministry made the strong statement over March 13 clashes in Donetsk.
Participants of the pro-Russia meeting attacked Ukrainian patriots, used knives and metal rods. A young man was killed and several dozen people were injured.
Kiev authorities are unable to control the situation in Ukraine, the Russian MFA claimed. That is why Moscow “reserves the right to protect its citizens in this state in such a situation.” It means that Ukraine will be facing the threat of a civil war, political scientist Kiryl Koktysh thinks:
"It does not mean that Russia will send troops to Donetsk. I think that the Russian troops will stay in Crimea and will not cross this border.”
Russia will try ‘to reserve’ the right to influence the situation in Ukraine, Koktysh thinks.
